  2. 1930 by a young research assistant
  3. Clyde Tombaugh at the Lowell
  4. Observatory in Flagstaff,
  5. Arizona. The search for a ninth
  6. planet started when irregularities
  7. in Neptune's orbit hinted that
  8. a large object lay beyond Neptune.

  10. However, Pluto was not big enough
  11. to distort Neptune to the degree
  12. that was observed and so the search
  13. for "Planet-X" continued up until
  14. recent years. The search was
  15. stopped when it was finally
  16. decided that the measurements
  17. of Neptune's were wrong, and that
  18. there were no irregularities
