- 1930 by a young research assistant
- Clyde Tombaugh at the Lowell
- Observatory in Flagstaff,
- Arizona. The search for a ninth
- planet started when irregularities
- in Neptune's orbit hinted that
- a large object lay beyond Neptune.

- However, Pluto was not big enough
- to distort Neptune to the degree
- that was observed and so the search
- for "Planet-X" continued up until
- recent years. The search was
- stopped when it was finally
- decided that the measurements
- of Neptune's were wrong, and that
- there were no irregularities
- in the first place.
